Photos from the Garden This Month

Written by Jackie D'Elia  |  Published on August 23, 2010

I‘ve taken a break from blogging this month to catch up on a few projects at work. With the relentless heat I’ve found it best to spend time working on my website designs. Southern Post blog has a new look but it is not completed yet. I’ve got a few more enhancements to make. Hope you like the new design. I prefer a clean, magazine like blog format that puts all the focus on the photography. I’ve changed the background color from green to charcoal grey and I think it makes the photos POP. I also modified the typography to the Georgia font. I find it easier to read.

Jackie, your new design is great! I love it! And the pictures are very, very good! The last two are my favorites.

Thank you, Tatyana. I debated over whether this design would be too drab for a garden blog, but I find that drab can sometimes be very calming and easy on my eyes. I prefer simple, clean and classic designs that focus in on the post and photography.

I love your new look. I’m like you; I like the photos to tell the story. I’ve never thought of charcoal gray as a nice photo background color…but I’m definitely rethinking this…Wow! The pictures do POP!
Hasn’t the heat been relentless! I’m thinking the weather service is going to declare this the hottest August on record. They said it at the half way mark and I thought it was a bit premature, but the second half stayed true to form.
Hope we get that promised rain soon.

Thanks David. I still have more modifications to make to the sidebar, but all in all, I am happy with it.

As for the HEAT… We this month has been brutal for the garden and for my utility bills. Water and electricity.

Looks like we have a good chance for rain this week. I hope so. As I drive around our west Houston neighborhood, even some of the established shrubs and trees are showing obvious signs of stress.
